Do You Remember That One Time?

We love to reminisce about the past, oftentimes remembering the fun times we had with friends and loved ones. If we are not careful, however, we can often allow our minds to linger on the ugly parts of our past as well. The mistakes that we made, the hurt that was done to other or to us, the regrets, the betrayals.

It’s been said that Satan is photographer who only takes pictures of your worst moments. Then, he tries to convince you that these photographs tell your story, he wants you to linger on those worst moments, those photographs that he wants etched in your mind. Satan would love for you to focus on those things that are seen, but God wants you to focus on the things that are unseen!

But God is an author. He is THE AUTHOR and as long as you are drawing breath, God is not done writing your story. Perhaps you have had a few dark chapters in your life, that’s the past. The old is gone and the new has come. God is not done with you and the story of your life that He is writing.

“So we don’t look at the troubles we can see now; rather, we fix our gaze on things that cannot be seen. For the things we see now will soon be gone, but the things we cannot see will last forever.” (2 Corinthians 4:18)

Satan would love for you to focus on those things that are seen, but God wants you to focus on the things that are unseen! Rather than focusing on the past that has been forgiven or the wounds that have been healed, focus on the unseen things, like forgiveness, like joy, like peace. These will last forever.

“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.” (2 Corinthians 5:17)

If you do have ugly parts of your life that keep coming to mind and those are areas that you have not given over to God, it may not be the enemy bringing up ugly snapshots to manipulate you, it might be God wanting to bring some darkness into the light so you can confess it and repent of it. But the old that has been confessed, forgiven and repented of is gone, it is passed away. Our Enemy would love to bring you down by any means necessary, sometimes that is focusing on the rot of a past that has been forgiven. Don’t focus on what is seen, focus on what is unseen, focus on your loving Father God is not yet done writing your story.
